Museum of German Inland Navigation shows special exhibition on Rhine shipping
The museum in Ruhrort dedicates its new special exhibition to the history of Rhine shipping and the transformation of Europe's largest inland port.
The Museum of German Inland Navigation in Ruhrort, housed in a historic Art Nouveau indoor swimming pool, opens a special exhibition on the history of Rhine shipping in 2026. Models, historic photographs and original objects document the shift from the barge to the modern container ship. A particular focus is the role of Ruhrort as the heart of the Port of Duisburg. Accompanying tours run along the historic harbour and aboard the museum ships at the towpath.
