Inner Harbor (Innenhafen)

For more than a century the Duisburg Inner Harbor was a transhipment point for grain and was known as the "bread basket of the Ruhr". After the decline of the milling industry, the area was redeveloped to plans by Norman Foster into one of the finest examples of structural transformation. Today the harbor basins are lined with restored warehouses, glass office buildings, the Garden of Remembrance, restaurants and cultural venues such as the MKM Museum Küppersmühle. The promenade invites strolling, boating and lingering, and is a popular nightspot in the evening.
