Beeck: steel location bets on green steel and new jobs
In northern Duisburg the steel industry is investing in climate-friendly production — the Beeck site is set to benefit from the shift to green steelmaking.
Duisburg is regarded as the largest steel location in Europe. In the Beeck district and the surrounding industrial sites, the sector is driving the shift towards green steel in 2026. The plan is to gradually replace blast furnaces with direct-reduction plants that can run on hydrogen. The city and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia are supporting the structural transformation with funding programmes and qualification offers for employees. The aim is to secure the industrial location and the jobs in northern Duisburg over the long term.
