Rhine Meadows Walsum
The Rhine Meadows Walsum in the far north of Duisburg is a renaturalised nature reserve of supraregional importance. Where dikes once tamed the river, the Rhine is now allowed to flood the meadows again, creating a valuable wetland. Numerous wading and water birds rest here, and in winter thousands of Arctic wild geese gather. Hardy Konik wild horses and Heck cattle maintain the open landscape. Viewpoints and trails make the meadows a quiet destination for nature lovers away from the industry.
