Rhine flooding: city closes shoreline paths and adjusts ferry service
After persistent rainfall the Rhine water level is rising — the city closes waterfront promenades in Ruhrort, Homberg and Walsum and partly suspends the ferry service.
Persistent rainfall upstream has caused the Rhine water level near Duisburg to rise significantly. As a precaution, the city has closed waterfront promenades and low-lying paths in Ruhrort, Homberg and Walsum. The Rhine ferry service between Ruhrort and Homberg was temporarily suspended. The fire brigade monitors the water levels around the clock; according to the city there is no acute danger to residential areas. Drivers are asked to observe the closures along the Rhine dyke and to follow diversions.
