Duisburg Inner Harbour: new waterside quarter takes shape
A further residential and office quarter is rising at the Inner Harbour as the city continues its shift from a storage port to a place to live and experience culture.
The Duisburg Inner Harbour is considered one of the most successful urban development projects in the Ruhr region. In 2026 a new residential and office quarter is taking shape on the northern bank. Where grain silos once stood, apartments, dining and waterside promenades are emerging. The harbour edge, designed to plans by Norman Foster, is being complemented by new green spaces. With the Lehmbruck Museum, the Garden of Remembrance and numerous restaurants, the Inner Harbour has long been a popular destination. The first buildings are due to be occupied in 2027.
